Health Heroes

Health Heroes is an interactive information session on the Sunshine Coast for students in Year 10 designed to introduce them to career opportunities that exist in the health sector. BUSY At Work has recently come on board with this exciting project as a sponsor.

Each Health Heroes session begins with a health scenario performance covering a patient’s progression through the health industry. Then students will have the chance to meet with professionals working in the industry, employers and education and training providers.

Localised based solutions such as Health Heroes are ways in which regions can reduce future unemployment and skills shortages. Health is a significant growth area for careers on the Sunshine Coast and Health Heroes is an opportunity for school students to get ready for a career in the industry. Recently the Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency released its discussion paper Australia’s skills and workforce development needs . This discussion paper has been developed to present research on current issues in relation to productivity and workforce participation and to examine future demands.

In creating scenarios to see what Australia’s future might hold in 2025, the discussion paper has identified that Health Care and Social Assistance and Retail Trade are to be the two top employing industries in 2025. Also employment growth is expected to be the strongest in the service sector of which Health Care and Social Assistance is one of the top five growth industries for 2025.
