National skills needs list – recruit & retain your staff

This is to encourage the skilling of employees in particular industries, strengthening Australia’s economic growth and advancement. Not only do apprenticeships give young people a great start in life but there are a number of incentives to encourage the recruitment of people across a diverse range of demographics.

The Australian Government defines the Skills Needs List as “Trades experiencing persistent skills shortage” which is based on detailed labour market research conducted by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations”. By 2015 there will be a shortage of 240,000 qualifications in Australia and the Australian Government uses financial incentives to encourage businesses to curb the shortage and employ more people to that particular trade or industry.

If your business operates in one of the key sectors listed on the National Skills Needs List you may be eligible to receive incentives to help you upskill existing staff and recruit employees.
